Pilgrim had its annual Trunk or Treat event on Friday, October 23. From 5:30-7:00, students, children, and adults were welcomed to join, dress up, and collect candy. Twelve cars participated in this event, along with many student volunteers who helped set up the event, and were part of making it run smoothly. All of the cars had different themes, some of them being Toy Story, Spiderman, Hello Kitty, Minions, Monsters Inc, etc. The parking lot was decorated, Halloween music was playing, and there were many activities for people to do like graveyard golf, twister, and crafting tables, along with food and drink stations.
Pilgrim has been doing Trunk or Treat for several years, Ms. Place used to run the event, but handed it over to Ms. DeLuca this year. Ms. DeLuca happily took it on, and when asked why, she stated, “I love Halloween spirit. I remember when I was a kid, Halloween was this huge event, and I feel like we’ve lost that a little. It’s a good way for high school students and other kids in the area to interact with each other and dress up.” Ms. DeLuca also expressed that the money the Trunk or Treat raised will go toward the art department, which plans to take students on field trips this year to art galleries and local places that showcase art, one of them hopefully being to the RISD Museum.

Originally, bringing cars and decorated trunks to participate in the Trunk or Treat was supposed to be a Senior-class only privilege, but when not enough people signed up, the rule changed so that all classes were able to join in. At the end of the night, everyone was able to vote for their favorite car and design. Car number seven, with its trunk decorated in a traditional Halloween theme with skeletons and ghosts, ended up winning the vote at the end of the night, and was announced the winner on the morning announcements of October 26th.
Trunk or Treat was a huge success, all thanks to the student volunteers, custodians who helped get the school ready, students who participated with their trunks, teachers who helped with setting up and decorating, and of course, Ms. DeLuca for not only organizing the event, but taking on the responsibility for the first time and making it a fun and exciting night. Parents, students, and kids all had fun dressing up and socializing with each other. We hope to see more students, cars, and Halloween spirit next year!
