On Tuesday October 6th, the Pilgrim Girls Soccer team played against Tiverton and hosted their Senior Night to celebrate their last season on the team. Before the game commenced, senior ceremonies had begun. The senior athletes, Emma Rattigan, Kylie Pirez, Madeline Godbout, and Allie Patten, all walked down an aisle created by their teammates to receive bouquets and take pictures with their families. Cutouts of seniors’ faces and posters filled the stands cheering for them and the rest of the team. The match was held at the Hendricken football field and the spotlights were shining brightly on the team.

Right away the team started scoring. Bella Pfeiler scored the first goal. Audra Lynch scored the second. Then senior Allie Patten scored. By halftime, the score was 3-0 and the team was not slowing down. Allie Patten scored once again and then senior Emma Rattigan was downed; she luckily recovered and scored a penalty kick. Tiverton scored their first goal and the final point of the game was scored by Nirmariz Zuniga which ended the game off 6-1, a great way to end Senior Night.

Near the end of the game, some seniors were interviewed. When asked about her four years on the team, Emma Rattigan said “The last two years we weren’t the best… We’ve improved this year and have been a lot better. It’s more fun when we work together and actually have a team experience”. When reflecting on the team she will soon be leaving she spoke again “This is the end of my career. Stopping at a high point. I’ll miss it, definitely. I’ve played since first grade so it has been something that has been a part of my everyday routine that won’t be here anymore”. Soccer has been very important for a lot of the seniors on the team, growing, making friends, and connecting more with old ones before graduation.

There is no doubt that the team played with determination and grit. The group’s training certainly paid off. The Black and White looks at the seniors’ futures with a great amount of hope. They will certainly accomplish a lot from the skills they have learned at soccer and at Pilgrim High School. We wish the girls the best of luck for the next chapter of their lives.
