As the sun began to rise over Narragansett Town Beach, Pilgrim’s class of 2027 gathered together to celebrate the beginning of their final year of high school at the annual Senior Sunrise. The event was originally supposed to be held on August 21, but after a disappointing rain storm occurred, the event was unfortunately rescheduled to August 25 of the following week.
Seniors arrived at the beach early in the morning to spend time with their fellow classmates, take pictures, and play volleyball while the sun rose up from the horizon. Although it was only a little after five in the morning, the event had a huge turnout as nearly the whole class of 2027 showed up to celebrate the start of their senior year.
For many students, this event was more than just a chance to watch the sunrise with their friends. Senior Sunrise presented an opportunity to showcase how far this class has come since their freshman year, and allows them to appreciate the people around them who have shared similar experiences while attending Pilgrim High School. With college applications just around the corner, and graduation approaching quickly, this occasion helps seniors take a step back and cherish these small moments with their classmates before everyone heads on different paths.
Many students decided to spend the whole day at the beach, continuing to play in the water or just sitting in the sand and conversing with their friends. While the event may have only lasted a few hours for some people, Senior Sunrise marked the beginning of a year that will be filled with milestones, celebrations, and lasts. For the Pilgrim High School Class of 2027, the countdown to graduation has officially begun.
