Scoring quite well in the season so far, the Division I Pilgrim boys lacrosse team were ready to face off against Westerly High School on May 8th. The teams were very close at the start, with the scores being 4-3 in the first quarter. It was raining on-and-off so the slippery field made it a tougher competition. It seemed that Westerly’s team regained their footing a bit earlier than Pilgrim, ending up with an eight point lead at the end of the third quarter. Pilgrim, however, made an incredible comeback; they scored six points in the last quarter, ending the game with a score of 10-15. One of the three captains, junior Brett Taylor, who plays attack and midfield says, “We are right on the cusp of playoffs… a little bit of a shaky loss tonight but we will bounce back and I have confidence that this team is going to make it far.”

It was also the team’s senior night on May 8th where many were reminiscing on their time with teammates and friends. Another team captain and senior, Declan Bragg says, “I definitely think this is some of the best years of my life, just a great team overall, great guys.” When asked if he was going to miss anyone, Bragg said, “Definitely my defense guys, Aaron, Connor, Chase, Matt Kenney, and Jacob, our goalie. They are just my boys.” Brett Taylor also says, “I’ve just been having so much fun with all of my teammates right here, a lot of these kids I’ve played with for many youth sports growing up… next year is going to be a bit difficult. We’re gonna lose a lot of valuable players but I’m also going to be losing a lot of teammates and good friends along the way but I trust my other teammates to fill in the spots.” It truly appears that the team has built some strong bonds over the seasons and, during that time, has worked extremely hard. The Pilgrim Black and White congratulates the many seniors on the team graduating this year. Best of luck to the Patriots in the playoffs, as well as the rest of their season.
