After a 20-year hiatus, the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) has officially returned to Pilgrim High School, bringing new opportunities for students interested in exploring careers in business. The club was reestablished through the efforts of dedicated President Jocelyn Dilone. She is supported by Vice President Marcus Walsh, Secretary Sarah Farhartt, and Treasurer Michael Spooner, all of whom have played a key role in rebuilding the organization from the ground up.
FBLA focuses on introducing students to a wide range of business topics, including economics, finance, leadership, accounting, marketing, and advertising. In addition to academic knowledge, the club emphasizes the importance of networking and gaining real-world experience. By participating in events and working collaboratively, members develop valuable professional skills that extend beyond the classroom and help prepare them for future careers and college opportunities.
Throughout the year, members attended three major events that shaped their experience. The first was an early-season conference, where students were introduced to statewide goals, expectations, and the structure of FBLA competitions. This event helped members understand the organization and begin preparing for the competitive season. The second event was a board breakfast, which provided more detailed information about competitions, including guidelines, judging criteria, and preparation strategies. These events were essential in building confidence and readiness among participants.
The final and most significant event of the year was the official competition. During this event, students demonstrated their knowledge and skills across a variety of business-related categories. Each member selected three events: two objective tests covering business concepts and one presentation-based event. Presentation options included mock interviews, public service announcements, business plans, and digital design projects, allowing students to showcase creativity, communication, and critical thinking.
In its first year back, FBLA had twelve students compete—an impressive achievement for a newly revived club. The group experienced notable success, with several members placing in the top ten. Jocelyn Dilone earned the prestigious “Who’s Who” award, while Marcus Walsh and Michael Spooner placed second in their events, qualifying for nationals. Bridget Pouliot placed fourth, and Oscar Perez-DeLeon, Sarah Farhartt, and Liam Skodras each earned fifth place in their respective categories.
FBLA’s successful return highlights the dedication of its members and leaders. The club has quickly reestablished itself as a successful and valuable opportunity here at Pilgrim High School.
