Pilgrims’s new Creative Writing Club started in September of 2025, meeting every Thursday. The club is a space for students to find inspiration, share pieces, and meet other people who are interested in creative writing. The club is student-driven, being formed by junior Lorelai Gagne, and is managed by Pilgrims’s English department head, Ms.Pouliot, who helps in guiding group discussions and brainstorming what the club will do.
During meetings of the Creative Writing Club, the desks are set up in a circle and after some discussion –oftentimes with a prompt available– everyone sits down to write. After writing, the floor is open for people to share what they have written with the rest of the members. Alongside the in-person meetings, the Google Classroom allows other students and the advisor to provide members with resources on writing and information on writing competitions.
This past Thursday, the club went and looked at a hair tie that has been outside the doors of Pilgrim for several years. Writers were then asked to try writing anything about the hair tie: how it came to be there, what happens to it after, a poem about it, etc. Afterwards, if they chose to, members could share their writing with the group. With such a wide variety of writers and styles, the pieces can range in length, personal style, and type of piece.
Creative Writing Club allows members to gain inspiration from a variety of places, whether this is something in their environment (like a hair tie) or direct prompts from other club members. Similarly, hearing writing shared by other students can be inspiring or encouraging, allowing the listener to engage in a variety of perspectives and styles. Alongside prompts and a space to share work if they want, the club is a place where writers can gain feedback from other students and have dedicated time to write, work on their projects, while developing important skills in a safe, open environment.
Currently with 18 members, The Pilgrim Creative Writing Club is for anyone who is interested in creative writing. Anybody can drop in for a single meeting or come weekly to write, build their skills, and share with a group of peers who share their passion!
