On the Tuesday of May 27th, the senior class had their very own “Senior Sidewalk Chalk” day! This tradition started at Warwick Vets around 2007 and has been a school favorite ever since. The general idea was that the graduating seniors would come together in groups and draw posters of different characters or movies or objects depending on the theme of that sidewalk chalk day. The seniors sent in requests for topics and got to voting; this year was animated television and movies.

Most of the senior class left during second period to go outside to the front of the school to prepare. Many were plastering themselves in sunblock for the warm day ahead, setting up tents, getting food, or taking out some chalk. The Seniors spent all day with each other drawing on the sidewalk and hanging out with friends as it was one of their last hurrahs before leaving the school. During lunchtime, juniors and underclassmen were allowed to walk around and vote on their favorite chalk drawings. Some seniors really wanted to win, hyping up their pieces and even handing out juice boxes and chips from the vending machines to secure some votes.

The top piece was from the movie “UP” by Hailey Riess, Genna D’Amato, Chris Maniatakos, Lilianna Bannon and Marciella Santoro. The second  place piece was from “Finding Nemo” and third place was a tie between pieces of  tv show “Gravity falls” and the movie “Lilo & Stitch”.

Mrs. Boudreau, the main organizer of this event, said “I love seeing my students in a different environment and a different mindset. They’re more laidback. It’s not specifically like a grade for school, they’re just having fun being kids enjoying those last few days of their senior year. . . Everyone did so well. The artwork is always so beautiful, students who I thought would goof off and not care about the event and play games, that competitive aspect comes in and they are the ones that put in some of the best work.. I love that we are sticking to this special tradition for the seniors.” It was extremely enjoyable to see some amazing artwork and to see most of our seniors before their school year ended.
