The Unified club is a group of neurotypical and neurodivergent students who work together on one team to provide community, activity, and joy into each member’s life through sports, hard work, and dedication. This year the club is run by Pilgrim’s Mr. “Coach” Magee.

The Unified team fought a hard won game in their basketball championship match. They won by three points over the Mt. Hope Huskies,. All student athletes were able to get a shot in like usual matches. Everyone at the event was very positive and supportive as well. The team had a couple of members that really stood out during this match such as Kayvion Skinnard scoring many baskets, senior Russell Horton holding it down with amazing defense, and Jack Sailor who hustled like crazy on rebounds.

Coach Magee, one of the school’s English teachers, said “ We have some of the greatest kids in the school on the team, the Unified program, the athletes and their partners had a lot of fun with practice this year, it’s been very rewarding  being apart of a support system like this as coach.” He later went on to say how beneficial it has been for students to be able to connect with faculty and other students this way. He also said that it has “Been really fun seeing students and faculty at games.”

The Unified team has loved all of the in school and out of school support, administrators, faculty and students from other schools not even related to the matches show up because of how fun the atmosphere is, how positive the people are at these games, and most importantly, to cheer on the Pilgrim Patriots. Coach Magee and the team hopes that students continue to attend games and support the team even more next year.

If you haven’t gone to or seen a Unified game, look into it next year as this newspaper and many other students and faculty are really big fans of this club and would love to see you there!
