When talking to students and teachers about starting the second semester, oftentimes they’ll say that the third quarter is the most difficult quarter of the year. Not only is there a schedule change to adjust to, but the third quarter is a busy time of year. It brings waves of the Pilgrim Plague, new sports starting up, competitions and field trips happen, and, most importantly, early senior project presentations occur.

“I think third quarter went pretty well,” explained Mr. Gibbons, when asked about his thoughts on the first half of the semester. “It’s a tough time of year, but March is behind us and there’s lots to celebrate moving forward.”

Despite the problems brought on by cold temperatures, Mr. Gibbons described the notable successes also brought by the time of year. Some of these included the Pilgrim Follies, Pi-Day celebrations, the Pilgrim Player’s spring play This Must Be the Place, and the Circles of Silence assembly. “I always love events like the Follies, or the playoff runs of both of the basketball teams,” he expressed. “When you get to see students doing what they love on the stage or court or pool or rink; those are my favorite parts.”

Another highlight of the season was early presentation day for senior Capstone projects, where all 87 seniors who presented early passed. Calling it a “highlight” of the quarter, he explained how “it’s nice for students to put a HUGE checkmark in that part of their senior year.”

As the quarter closes and Pilgrim High School prepares for the final stretch of the school year, Mr. Gibbons wanted to give the students a message for the fourth quarter: “Finish the year off on a high note. Pass in all your work, be to classes on time, get your grades up, and then sit back and enjoy the summer.”
