“Don’t be silly! In a quiet, out-of-the-way neighborhood like this, I’d be certain almost nothing unexpected ever happens!”

“That’s what the real estate man told me when I bought the place. Wait till I get my hands on him…”.

Sunday, April 6 marked the closing show of Pilgrims Player’s Drama Club spring performance, This Must Be The Place. The comedy play set in the 1980s followed Bob Zachary, a famous portrait painter, as numerous people come galavanting through his house all with their own schemes, plans, and stories.

A few of these characters include Gloria Desmond, a twenty year old debutante who fell in love with Bob while getting her portrait painted in secret. Roger Clark, Bob’s best friend who pretended to be him to impress his girlfriend and MGM Grand dancer with amnesia, Candy Cluster. Pomona Beaumont, Gloria’s aunt who followed her to Bob’s house. And finally, Candy’s mother, who will soon find her long lost daughter.

When asked how the opening show on Friday went, senior Alexandra Howlett said “I think it went great. I felt it was a very active crowd and I’m excited for the rest of the weekend.” Alexandra is responsible for portraying Pomona in the A Cast, and got a lot of laughs during all three performances, especially in her scenes with Candy Cluster (portrayed by Lily Mathison, grade 10) and Roger Clark (portrayed by Andrew Pouliot, grade 9). “[My favorite part of the show] was watching all the pieces come together and seeing and listening to the audience react and really enjoy it.

I mean that’s why we do it,” says Mr. Denningham, the director of the Pilgrim Players. As a whole, This Must Be The Place was an upbeat, fun play to end the drama club’s year with and they should be very proud of themselves.
