The National Honor Society conducted a very successful book drive right before February vacation. Mrs. Parente and Mr. Lawton oversaw the whole process and were a big part in the book drive’s success. In addition, the National Honor Society officers helped kickstart this wonderful drive. One main goal of the book drive was to create something different at Pilgrim which would still go to a good cause. Very often clubs do drives such as toy drives, so NHS wanted to add some variety to the school and create a common mission to bring books to younger and less fortunate children. All of the books collected were donated to Books Are Wings which aims to put books in the hands of children for free.

The National Honor Society officers also played a big role in this book drive. Historian, Grace Ferland, reached out to the organization to set up the book drive. President, Keaney Bayha, helped gather resources such as boxes to transfer the books. Secretary, Lia Franchetti, made the flyer to advertise the book drive. Vice president, Alexis Warburton, helped sort and collect many of the books throughout the drive. Correspondence Secretary,Alexandra Howlett, helped create announcements for the book drive. And treasurer, Will Raleigh, helped complete the payment for the donut party, rewarded to the advisory classroom that donated the most books. The rest of the members of the National Honor Society helped collect books throughout the week from their respected advisories.
The National Honor Society is an organization with chapters throughout America that recognizes students who excel in academics, leadership, and character. Our school’s NHS chapter consists of about forty-five members that have all the qualities that the NHS represents. For students interested in becoming a member of NHS in the years to come, some requirements consist of maintaining a cumulative gpa of a 3.9 , as well as going through a video interview process with the advisors. NHS aims to help the community and to help students become leaders in high school and throughout the rest of their lives, and strive for excellence always.
Overall, the book drive brought the Pilgrim community together to reach the common goal of giving all children access to books. Every advisory’s participation is greatly appreciated. However, advisory room 705 took the cake with 222 books donated. In total, the NHS collected a total of 1,290 books . Everyone’s donations did not go unnoticed and the NHS thanks everyone for such a large collection of books.
