As Spring approaches The Pilgrim Players Drama Club is preparing for their last show of the school year. The production is called This Must Be The Place, a comedy set in the modern day United States. The play starts off as fairly normal but soon descends into chaos. Some of the characters running around the house desperate to solve the case of the missing Desmond diamonds while others are attempting to woo their partners and to pursue their love interests – all jumbled together under the same roof with an eager yet abnormal investigator. This upcoming hectic production is filled with hilarious moments and non stop movement. Mr. Denningham, the director of the Pilgrim Players Drama Club, has been planning the show months in advance.
”I wanted to do a comedy this year, and this play has a really nice mix of silliness and goofiness and slapstick humor and laugh out loud, you know, comedy that it just felt like a good fit for us.“
The January 31st auditions were held in the auditorium bringing Pilgrim students both experienced and new to audition for the play. When asked about his thoughts on the auditions of that day Denningham responded “We’re running two casts, a lead cast and an understudy cast, and both are really stacked with talented kids. our program is very lucky to have so many talented young people.”
One of the students who auditioned is Sophie Andrade, a junior who has been involved in drama club since their freshman year. First as a tech member and then joining cast for the first time during the production of Bloody Murder. Last friday Sophie auditioned and was cast as the character Pomona Beaumont. A role which they were really happy to get.
“I think it’s the one that fits me the most. I think it makes the most sense. She’s very eccentric, very, very much me. I think we’re kind of one. I think we’re very similar.”
Despite holding some discontent like many other members with the decision of making an understudy and lead cast, Sophie is looking forward to the show and ready to put their all.
“ I think there’s been some unfortunate things that have happened so far, but I think in the long run, it’ll be a really good show. ”

For Mr Denningham there was a very important reason for the creation of a lead cast and an understudy cast.
“We’ve done multiple casts for the past few years. After last year’s show, I thought it would be a better fit for the group if we didn’t go with two lead casts and better we went with a lead cast and an understudy cast. That way, in case people dropped out of the show, there would be understudies to fill in to those performances. You know, we’re lucky that we have the understudy cast because we’ve already had that happen, so it’s been good.”
The Pilgrim Players cast and tech have already gone through the full read through. They are prepared to work torward the creation of the set as well as the future performances coming in April.
