As winter sports have started, The Pilgrim Black and White is highlighting each team in the 2024-2025 season.

We had the opportunity to speak to coach O’Connor of the Pilgrim’s wrestling team and some of its members. While the team is unable to pick their starting lineup as of now, coach O’Connor has faith in his returning state qualifiers, including Sincere Mello, Saliou Faye, Jacob Olivera, and Allie Patten.

Allie was Pilgrim’s and Rhode Island’s first girls defending state champion. She stated ¨It was really cool being a part of RI Girls wrestling States. Getting to go to New Englands after and placing third was a really great acomplishment¨

When asked about the status of this year’s team, coach O’Connor says ¨As a group I can state that effort is not lacking, and hard work is in the DNA of this year’s team.”

Last season the team finished 3rd in the division. Coach O’Connor says ¨We are a young team that has its eye on competition.” This year they are hoping to excel even further. January 2nd is the teams next meet, make sure you’re there to support.
