Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in the world and the first most common for women. It accounts for roughly thirty percent of all new cancers for women each year. It is very common to meet or know someone who has fought or is fighting this battle and we show our support during every October in Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Because of Breast Cancer Awareness month, it was pink day on Friday, October 25 at Pilgrim. Students showed support for the cause in big swaths of pink in shirts, makeup, pants, tutus, bracelets, and any other attire you could think of.

Pinkest Teacher: Mr. Brown

Waves of pink students and pink faculty flowed through the halls. Students sold ‘pink’ items like bracelets at lunches and items in the front lobby during the morning in order to raise money for the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Foundation, which offers services to and helps support those with breast cancer. The foundation also holds a 5k to raise money for breast cancer. They have a center in Pawtucket and another in Lincoln.

Pinkest Student: Roman Jimenez

Who was the pinkest? Many students and teachers dressed up but two shined through. There was a contest to see the pinkest student and the pinkest teacher. The winner for pinkest student was Roman Jimenez with an all pink outfit, bandana and all. The pinkest teacher was Mr. Brown who was sporting a pink headband and a pink painted face.

The school was filled with joy and was very lively for the event, all showing their support for those battling breast cancer. Seeing the whole school come together was a great experience for a great cause.
