Did you see a group of bikers and surfers hanging around the halls like a scene out of Teen Beach Movie? Did you notice how comfy the teachers looked on Thursday? Did you catch how Mr. Kimmerlein clones seemed to be everywhere? All that seemed strange and unusual last week was the result of the spirit and pride Pilgrim students have for their school as they celebrated spirit week!

Spirit week kicked off on Friday, October 11th with school colors. Surfers and bikers took over on Tuesday, the 15th, and on Wednesday, there was an abundance of twins spotted around the building. On Thursday, teachers and students enjoyed imitating each other on Teacher/Student Switch Day (teachers more so than students, according to Dr. Hainey). Friday was the most engaged day of the week, with varsity athletes wearing their uniforms and the rest of the school dressed in all black and camouflage. Dr. Hainey, who organized spirit week with the class of 2025, even sold bandanas during lunches throughout the week to support the National Guard and the school’s football team.

Dr. Hainey also organized the pep rally that was held last period on Friday. “Being completely inexperienced with that event, I found it quite challenging,” she explained. “What made it a successful event was the help I received from teachers and students… It takes a village!” Despite those challenges, the pep rally was Dr. Hainey’s favorite part of the week, and she was extremely grateful for everyone who helped her.

The seniors took the gold for all three of the events in the pep rally. Two seniors won the egg toss, a group of seniors won the tug of war, and senior Brad Whitman came out victorious in the pie eating contest.

The Homecoming game and dance were held Friday and Saturday night. An exciting and memorable night, Pilgrim came out on top against Classical. The seniors brought couches to the field and gathered with their friends to root for our team.

The theme for the Homecoming dance was “starry night”. Mrs. Ames and the class of 2027 organized and decorated for the dance. “I was excited to have the opportunity to organize it, and it is an excellent opportunity for the class of 2027 to start fundraising,” Mrs. Ames said. “That being said, it is difficult to plan a homecoming versus a prom because of the sheer number of people. It’s hard to know how much to purchase or who’s gonna like what. No matter how aggravating it is, seeing people have fun is the whole goal. Everyone found something they liked, like a spot outside or one song to dance to or a kid to be with and be comfortable.”

Overall, spirit week was a blast and a huge success. The students and faculty really demonstrated what it means to be a Pilgrim Patriot. “Spirit week gives me an opportunity to be part of the school in a way that teaching [only] a hundred kids a year does not allow me to be part of,” Mrs. Ames expressed.
