Along with countless clubs here at Pilgrim High School, new this current year is Youth Driven, a club that advocates traffic safety, raises awareness for young drivers, and provides students with opportunities for leadership and relationships in their community.
What makes Youth Driven different from other clubs is that it holds a deeper message and goal within the school community. It’s not just a place for students to get involved, but a place where ideas and plans are shared to constantly work together in achieving the same intention. Unlike other clubs, Youth Driven is working towards making a difference in not just the lives of Pilgrim’s students but in all young individuals.
When discussing future plans and projects for the club, it was determined that this year’s goal is to raise awareness to young people of the many traffic dangers that exist. Simple projects help to spread the clubs message – projects such as handing out information slips in public spaces like school dances and corresponding with professional establishments such as MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) and attending several advocacy summits.
When talking with one of the leaders and innovators of the club, Michaela Fitzgerald, she stressed why this club is important to her personally as a student advocate at Pilgrim. “Youth Driven is important to me because everyone should have the opportunity to make it home at the end of the day safely.” She perfectly represents what this club stands for and how significant it can truly be when given the chance.

Youth Driven is a traffic safety and leadership program that allows younger individuals to not only learn about road safety, but to advocate for it across the world. By finally reaching Pilgrim, it can be given a chance to reach its immense potential to accomplish great things for our community.
