In a tough matchup against Mt. Hope, the Pilgrim football team lost 24-19 on Friday, October 4th.
The game started with complete eagerness, being at Mt. Hope, the theme was Pink Out, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The student section was roaring with hunger for a win.
It started early, with the Huskies pushing through the Patriot’s defense to get the first touchdown of game, followed by an extra point and a field goal, making the score 10-0 in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Luka Ruscio ran 10 yards to the end zone to secure the first touchdown for the Patriots. Ty Johnson successfully kicked the extra point, making the score 10-7. Continuing to the second quarter, the Huskies secured another touchdown and extra point, making the score 18-7. The Patriots didn’t let up though as running-back Jacob Soulliere scored making it 18-12 after a missed extra point.
In the third quarter, Dylan Rodrigues made an interception 5 yards away from the end zone, stealing the ball away from the receiver for the Huskies. The interception was announced over the loudspeaker for the fans, but, the refs took back the call and denied the interception. Pilgrim’s parents got loud and angry with the refs, for the next ten minutes, there was nothing but complete anger and rage at the refs. Mt.Hope took advantage of this bad call, and scored yet another touchdown, making the score bump up to 24-12.
Quarterback Carter Clifton ran the ball in to add another touchdown to the board, making the score 24-18, with Ty kicking in another extra point, making it 24-19 and that’s how it would stay.
Pilgrims’ loss dropped their record to 2-2. As for Mt.Hope, this pushed their record up to 2-2. Pilgrim’s road trip will continue as they head out to East Greenwich on Saturday, 10/12 at 7 pm.
